Rajinikanth starrer Kabali release date of July 22 has been cleared by the Madras High Court after a review of a petition. Kabali as such will release today (Friday). A petition filed by a distributor (petitioner R Mahaprabhu of Sukra Films) sought compensation from Rajinikanth and till they got that, the demand was raised for Kabali release to be restrained. With millions of fans eagerly waiting for the movie to release, this court order must have come as welcome relief.

The case dealt with Rajinikanth's previous release Lingaa (2014) which had racked up huge losses and the distributor said he was not fully compensated for that. However, Justice M M Sundresh dismissed the interim application to stop the movie from being released.

Sukra Films had filed the petition as late as Wednesday, saying Rajinikanth was supposed to have paid them Rs 89 lakh. Lingaa was one of the most hyped movies to ever release in India, but it was not able to to do well at all, leading to all those involved in it logging huge losses. Those who had been promised compensation wanted the vow to be fully carried out in reality.

Ahead of Kabali release, Rajinikanth has been hit by a number of setbacks, this one in court demanding stopping of screening being just one of them. At the other end, Kabali was leaked on the Dark Web some days ago. It was unclear whether the entire movie was leaked online or just a 30-minute clip was pirated. Today, Kabali was again leaked and this time it was a crucial 2-minute period from the beginning of the movie that became illegally available online. However, through none of these events has the megastar said a word. He is in the US and has refused to react in any way.
