Teachers' Day 2016: Today is Teachers' Day and everyone remembers and honours their teachers in mind or in the institution they are studying in. This is also the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. To kick off the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the first Vice President and second President of India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, after whom the day is dedicated – he was a great scholar and statesman and his birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers' Day across India. Dr Radhakrishnan was scholar of comparative religion and held the King George 5th Chair of Mental and Moral Science, University of Calcutta and Spalding Professor of Eastern Religion and Ethics, University of Oxford. Teachers' Day 2016: In the same vein President Pranab Mukherjee, who was himself a teacher once in the beginning of his career, said that this is an occasion when "we recognise the dedicated services of the teachers of our nation". President called on the teaching community to imbibe technology in imparting education.
