The one constant in this timeline is that Nitish remained the chief minister as was his goal and intention. On July 26, 2017 Kumar resigned from his post, breaking the two year-old mahagathbandhan that was inked between Janata Dal United (JDU), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Indian National Congress (INC). 1994, February: Nitish Kumar joined Janata Dal, a political faction to take on then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, breaking old ties with him.
