Congress-led UPA govt had three power centres, says BJP Amit Shah
Congress-led UPA government had three power centres– the then prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, which created confusion and policy paralysis, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah said here today while launching a tirade against the previous regime. "There was a situation of policy paralysis (in the country). Not a single decision was taken. It was not known actually from where the government was running…whether it was running from Soniaji's house or from prime minister's house or from Rahul Baba's house," Shah said while addressing a rally of BJP workers in the city. Shah's offensive came after PM Narendra Modi implied Sonia had been an "unconstitutional" authority exercising "real" power. (PTI)

AAP's govt in Delhi can appoint 99 pct officers, says BJP:
Delhi government has power to recruit 99 per cent of its staff except transfer and postings of IAS and IPS officers, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislative leader Vijendra Gupta today said while defending Centre's notification giving absolute powers to Lt Governor. Gupta alleged that more than 30,000 posts are lying vacant, but the Delhi government has not done anything in this regard. Speaking on the resolution seeking amendments to bring a legislation to create "NCT Public Service", leader of Opposition said that as Delhi is a Union Territory, such decisions can not be taken. "A change has to be made in the Constitution through Parliament for the creation of "NCT Public Service" as Delhi is Union Territory. You (government) are confusing the bureaucrats of Delhi. The government is not in the situation to run bureaucracy," Gupta said. (PTI)
No hurdle in carrying business by using God, Goddess names: SC

The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a PIL to stop the use of names and images of Gods and Goddesses for commercial exploitation, saying "this country has 33,000 crores of Gods." "It is a case of faith of people," a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy observed while making it clear that citizens cannot be restrained from carrying their business enterprises on the names of any God or Goddess in which they have belief and faith. "A businessman can keep the name of Laxmi stores. Can he not name his daughter Laxmi," the bench asked the lawyer arguing the matter. Further, it asked why a person be stopped naming the God or putting the image of any God on the nameplates or packaging. "I like to worship that God. I want to put the name and I want to have the image of that particular God. How can somebody stop," the bench said. (Reuters) (24/07/2015)
-
