President election result 2017: After months long buzz over the presidential election, NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind has been elected as the 14th President of India by defeating the Opposition candidate Meira Kumar. In the election that was held on July 17 (Monday), Kovind received 65.65 per cent votes while Meira Kumar secured 34.35 per cent votes resulting in the victory of the former. Soon after the result declared, the President-elect was flooded with congratulatory messages coming from the political arena. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Janata Dal (United) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, many political leaders extended greeting to Kovind. Meanwhile, common people also celebrated the victory of Kovind in the presidential poll in their own way. While some distributed sweets to celebrate the win, many took out procession holding placards having his picture fixed on it.
