Bharat Bandh 2016 today : Trade unions' nationwide strike on September 2 is today and the common man in particular is all set to feel the pain. Yes, it is always those at the middle and bottom rungs of the classes that are worse affected. Bharat bandh is a reaction by workers groups against the Central government, which did not agree to their demands, especially for a proper wage hike. Those in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai will be gravely affected. The trade union strike has been called to protest against the 'anti-labour policies' of the Narendra Modi government – union leaders had met FM Arun Jaitley, but it looks that the talks failed. A whopping 18 crore workers are expected to participate in the strike. Check out the pain points for citizens: (Source: Twitter)

Bharat Bandh 2016 today: What is likely to be affected: Among the biggest pain points for citizens will be from the fact that industry, across sectors, and government offices will be shut on a pan-India basis. That means what will be affected are public transport services, banking, and government services. Buses and autorickshaws will not be plying. So, be warned and make alternative arrangements before you set out on your professional or academic pursuits or for that matter, recreational activities. The big cities in particular will suffer the most. When reports last came in, at least 6 more public sector banks (PSBs) will join the strike. As far as the most essential service is concerned, that of hospitals and ambulances, unions have said that the workers there will be participating but services will not be stopped. (Source: Twitter)

Bharat Bandh 2016 today: Trade unions are protesting as the government wants to hike minimum wages for unskilled workers by 20 per cent to Rs 12,000 per month for Tier-I cities. But unions say this is quite less as price rise is tremendous and workers are not being able to make both ends meet. What they want is a minimum wage of 18,000 per month and a permanent pension of Rs 3,000. Unions also want the Narendra Modi govt to remove FDI from certain sectors like Defence and Indian Railways.
