Chennai rains: Chief Minister Jayalalithaaa reviewed the situation in Tamil Nadu and deputed ministers to inspect the affected regions. Jayalalithaa said police, fire and rescue, National and State Disaster Forces and Coast Guard have been kept ready for need-based evacuation of people from flood hit regions. She reviewed the situation arising out of heavy rains in districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore and Kanchipuram districts.

"I have ordered officials to take precautionary measures before releasing surplus waters from reservoirs and evacuate people living in low-lying areas," Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa said.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has sought immediate interim financial assistance of Rs 100 crore from the Centre, to take up relief works. In a release, Rangasamy said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking immediately an interim relief of Rs 100 crore to cope with the situation arising out of the rains.

Officials said they might review the decision at midnight to take a call on resuming operations. A senior airport official said while the runways were free of water logging, they suspended flight operations as a precautionary measure following waterlogging in some other areas, adding, they did not want to take a chance. Chennai Rains: The weather office here has predicted more rains in Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours due to presence of a low pressure in Bay of Bengal. "Due to low pressure rainfall will continue in next 24 hours in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with some places receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall," Regional Meteorological Department Director, S R Ramanan told reporters.
Chennai rains: The NDRF is airlifting another 15 teams to the rain-battered state. While 10 teams are being airlifted from Bhubaneshwar to Tirupati, another five teams are being lifted from Delhi, NDRF DG O P Singh said.Each team comprises 40 personnel. (PTI)
