1. Apple Watch review: It has improved with new software

Apple Watch’s new software brings useful enhancements, though it’s not the same as getting a new watch. That same watch can now do more. For the first time, non-Apple apps are able to display video and use the watch’s sensors and controls. In addition, the watch now works with Wi-Fi, extending how far you can go without a phone with you. These enhancements address many of my initial frustrations with the watch. But the hardware itself isn’t changing, apart for some new color and band choices. Promised battery life remains at 18 hours, something Apple will need to address in upcoming generations given that rival smartwatches are promising more. For now, you might need to buy a spare charger to give the watch a power boost while you’re sitting at work. Even 15 minutes will help. The watchOS 2 update for Apple Watch arrived Monday, delayed by nearly a week as Apple fixed an unspecified bug.
Read full review: <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/article/tech/apple-watch-review-it-has-improved-with-new-software/139463/"> Apple Watch review: It has improved with new software
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)
2. Apple iOS App Store suffers first major attack

Apple Inc said on Sunday it is cleaning up its iOS App Store to remove malicious iPhone and iPad programs identified in the first large-scale attack on the popular mobile software outlet. The company disclosed the effort after several cyber security firms reported finding a malicious program dubbed XcodeGhost that was embedded in hundreds of legitimate apps. It is the first reported case of large numbers of malicious software programs making their way past Apple’s stringent app review process. Prior to this attack, only five malicious apps had ever been found in the App Store, according to cyber security firm Palo Alto Networks Inc. The hackers embedded the malicious code in these apps by convincing developers of legitimate software to use a tainted, counterfeit version of Apple’s software for creating iOS and Mac apps, which is known as Xcode, Apple said.
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)
3. New app provides short fiction for ‘Snapchat generation’

An Indian-origin entreprenuer in the US has developed a new app which features short fiction for young adults who are hooked to their smartphones. Prerna Gupta from California describes her app, called Hooked, as “books for the Snapchat generation.” Hooked will feature short fiction for young-adult readers. Gupta said that 80 per cent of young-adult novels are read digitally. So the teen-set seemed like the most natural audience. Each book will be roughly 1,000 words and is designed to be read in about five minutes. The stories will be told entirely through dialogue and read like texts. Messages show up on screen when readers click “Next.” Gupta envisions the app as being like “Twitter for fiction,” ‘CNN Money’ reported.
(21/09/2015)(Reuters)
4. Skype suffers from major outage across the globe

Skype has gone down for the users around the world. According to the The Next Web, the company says that it is due to an issue with the status settings. Skype users took to Twitter to report that they are unable to log in, change their status or make and receive calls. The company says that instant messages and Skype for Web are working fine and that it is working to restore the rest of its service.
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)
6. France rejects Google appeal over ‘right to be forgotten’

France’s data protection watchdog rejected today an appeal by Google against a decision ordering the Internet giant to comply with users’ requests to have information about them removed from all search results. Since a European Court of Justice ruling in May 2014 recognising the “right to be forgotten” on the net, Google users can ask the search engine to remove results about them that are no longer relevant. However, Google ran into trouble in France over the fact that while it removes these references from its results in searches made in Google.fr or other European extensions, it refuses to do so on Google.com and elsewhere. “This strips away the effectiveness of this law, and varies the rights granted to persons according to the Internet user who consults the search engine, rather than the person concerned,” said the data watchdog CNIL.
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)

The programme is aimed to transform India into a hub of high-quality mobile developers for global and local apps. The Android Nanodegree is an education credential that is designed to help developers learn new skills and advance their careers in a few months from anywhere on any device at their own pace.
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)

According to the Engadget, the new feature Trove allows the users to ask the device to read the top news headlines on a given subject.
9. Megaupload’s Kim Dotcom extradition hearing: The case

Kim Dotcom and three colleagues face an extradition hearing that began Monday in an Auckland courtroom. Dotcom is the colorful German-born entrepreneur who started the Internet site Megaupload, which was shut down by federal authorities in 2012. Here’s are 6 things at stake:

THE CASE: U.S. prosecutors are trying to extradite Dotcom from his home in New Zealand to face trial in Virginia. His Megaupload site was once used by millions of people to store files and download songs and movies. Federal authorities accuse Dotcom of facilitating Internet piracy on a massive scale and have charged him with conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, racketeering and money-laundering. Dotcom argues that plenty of people used his site for legitimate reasons he can’t be held responsible for those who chose to use it for illegal downloads. As well as Dotcom, the U.S. is also trying to extradite former Megaupload officers Mathias Ortmann, Bram van der Kolk and Finn Batato.
(21/09/2015) (Reuters)
10. Now, selfie spoon that lets you take pictures while you eat

A ‘selfie spoon’ that extends up to 30 inches can make meals more fun by allowing you to take photos of yourself while you eat. The ‘selfie spoon’ is a selfie stick with a spoon at the end that extends up to 30 inches (76.2 cm) so people can take photos of themselves while eating. The General Mills brand Cinnamon Toast Crunch created this new spin on the selfie stick to solve the problem of “choosing between eating and posting” a selfie, ‘The Time’ reported. To use the selfie spoon, users have to turn on the Bluetooth feature on their smartphones.
(21/09/2015) (Courtesy: Instagram)
