In his first major decision after assuming office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday announced a 2% DA hike for state government employees and teachers, bringing financial relief to lakhs of staff and pensioners.
According to an official release, the DA has been raised from 58 per cent to 60 per cent and will come into effect from January 1, 2026.
The decision is expected to increase the Tamil Nadu government’s annual expenditure by around Rs 1,230 crore.
DA hike to benefit employees, teachers and pensioners
The state government said the additional funds required for the revised allowance would be allocated as part of its commitment towards the welfare of government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.
Officials said the move is expected to benefit a large section of serving and retired government staff who have been waiting for the latest revision in dearness allowance.
The release also highlighted the role played by government employees and teachers in implementing welfare programmes and public schemes across Tamil Nadu.

The release said the Vijay-led government remains focused on introducing and implementing welfare schemes for people across the state.
It added that government officials and teachers continue to play a major role in designing and successfully executing these schemes at the ground level.
The DA revision comes at a time when several states have announced similar hikes for employees following changes in inflation-linked allowances.
