How to correct Aadhaar card, PAN card details: In the latest development, The Income Tax department has confirmed that taxpayers will have to link their Aadhaar cards with PAN cards in order to file their e-ITR which is mandatory for all individuals except whose income is less than Rs 5 lakh per annum and those who are above 80 years of age. Also, July 01 is not the last date to link PAN Card with Aadhaar card.
The I-T Department has launched an online facility to correct errors in the names and other details mentioned in Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar card. Around 1.2 crore assessees already got their Aadhaar-linked PAN, but the number is abysmally low as there are over 25 crore PAN card holders in the country, while currently, Aadhaar has been issued to 111 crore people approximately. The Finance Minister, through an amendment to the Finance Bill for 2017-18, had made Aadhaar mandatory for filing income tax returns and provided for linking of PAN with Aadhaar to check tax evasion through the use of multiple PAN cards.
Here are a few simple steps which can help you change your details in either PAN or Aadhaar.
Step 1:
The department has provided two separate hyperlinks on its income tax e-filing website — (incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in). To make any changes you need to visit the following website and click the link provided in the left side block.
Step 2:
The first link is to make changes in the existing PAN data or for application of new PAN by an Indian or a foreign citizen. The second hyperlink is for individuals who want to update their Aadhaar details by logging into ‘Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal’ using the unique identity number. After doing so, the individual can upload scanned documents as a proof for updating data request.
Step3:
After clicking on the first link, it will be redirected to another website which is the NSDL’s website for updating PAN details (onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html. You can even visit the website directly to make any changes.
Step4:
If you think that your PAN details are correct and you want to make changes in your Aadhaar, then you need to click on the second link which will get redirected to Aadhaar’s portal and from there you can easily make changes as per your requirement. You also need to upload a relevant document for the process to get authenticated and verified by UIDAI.
Once you are done with the changes, the Income Tax Department has provided the facility to link your Aadhaar and PAN. You need mention your PAN and Aadhaar number along with your name as per the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) data. After verification is done by the UIDAI, the linking of Aadhaar and PAN will be confirmed. However, in the case of any minor mismatch in the Aadhaar name, Aadhaar OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number with the UIDAI. Thus, this simple process will help you update and link your Aadhaar with PAN very easily through the online process.
