How to link your Aadhaar card with PAN card: The Incoem Tax department on June 29 had announced that taxpayers will have to link their Aadhar cards with PAN cards to file their Income Tax Returns online which caused some panic. However, the process is not as hard as it sounds. Also, July 01 is not the last date to link PAN Card with Aadhaar card. Those who will fail to get their cards linked before JUly 1 will have an option to mention the UIDAI-provided number in the e-ITR.
The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN card with Aadhaar card. Responding to grievances of taxpayers regarding difficulties in linking PAN with Aadhaar as their names did not match in both systems, for example, names with initials in one and expanded initials in another, the I-T Department has come out with a simple solution.
To link your PAN with Aadhaar, you need to follow two simple steps:
Taxpayers need to visit the incometaxindiaefiling.gov. in website and click on the link on the Left Pane – ‘Link Aadhaar’. After clicking on this link, you will be directed towards the next window where you need to provide the details of PAN and Aadhaar card.
Enter the PAN, Aadhaar number and also, enter your name exactly as given in Aadhaar card (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit it by clicking on ‘link Aadhaar’. After verification from UIDAI, the linking will be confirmed.
In the case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided by the taxpayer when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, a One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar. Taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly the same. In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from the name in PAN, then the linking will fail and the taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.
There is no need to login or be registered on E-filing website. This facility can be used by anyone to link their Aadhaar with PAN.
This facility is also available after login on the e-filing website under profile settings and choosing Aadhaar linking. The details as per PAN will be pre-populated. Enter Aadhaar number and enter the name exactly as given in Aadhaar card (avoid doing any kind of spelling mistakes) and lastly, submit your details.
Taxpayers are requested to use the simplified process to complete the linking of Aadhaar with PAN immediately. This will be useful for e-verification of income tax returns using OTP sent to their mobile registered with Aadhaar.
