A comprehensive motor insurance policy covers almost everything to protect your vehicle – right from roadside assistance and engine protection to key insurance and so on. However, when it comes to making a claim, it sometimes gets rejected.

Mostly, the claims get rejected because of the avoidance of small things. The reasons may be many, like getting lazy in the policy renewal, getting busy, providing wrong information to save money, not completing documents on time and so on.

It is, however, becomes necessary to provide relevant information to the insurance company or the insurer because at the time of need, if you are not able to take the benefit of the insurance premium being paid by you every year, then it is useless to have an insurance policy. It is mandatory for everyone to get one’s vehicle insured. Therefore, make sure that you make the best use of it.

Do not forget to renew your policy
All motor insurance policies are issued for only one year, which needs to get renewed in the 12th month every year. Even though your might be getting your vehicle insured from decades, but the insurer will not give you any relaxation if your vehicle meets with an accident after the expiry of your insurance. Make sure you get your insurance on time because even if you are 1 day late, your previous insurance will not work and hence you cannot get claim from the insurer.

Do not provide incorrect information
Buying a top variant model of car and getting a registration of lower variant on paper may save your registration cost, but if you meet with an accident then in such a case your insurer has all the rights to reject your insurance, subjected to providing wrong information on papers.
Now a days insurance companies are also using centralized data to detect the NCB (no claim bonus). Therefore, even while renewing your policy from a new insurer, you need to reveal the information about claims made during the previous year. Otherwise, your claim can get rejected as the insurer always investigates before settling any claim.

Do not delay in intimation
If your vehicle meet with an accident, then one of the top most thing you need to do is to claim for the insurance. Mostly, an insurer demands you to inform about the damage within 72 hours from the time your vehicle met with an accident. Delay in claiming the insurance may get rejected by your insurer. Therefore, the time-frame is a major concern which needs to be kept in mind to get your claim amount. Otherwise you may have to bear a heavy loss.

Do not forget to register owner’s name
While buying a second hand car, make sure that all your papers are being transferred to the owner’s name within two weeks. People are usually habituated of not getting the papers transferred just to avoid extra money they need to pay for the second hand car and moreover, avoiding the lengthy documentation procedure which they need to go through. But eventually, they forget to think that if that car meets with an accident, then they will have to bear a heavy loss because in such a case the insurer can reject the claim. Make sure that your RC and insurance policy have the same details.

Do not carry an invalid licence
Driving licenses are valid for a slightly longer period, mostly having a validity of 20 years, and it is not easy to remember when you need to renew your licence since the time period is so long. However, it is very important to keep on checking the insurance date from time to time because failing to have a valid licence during the accident may get your claim rejected from the insurer.

Even if you are carrying a valid licence for a two wheeler and driving a four-wheeler, then also your claim can get rejected by the insurer. Moreover, the consequences remains the same in case driving a heavy motor vehicle (HMV) and carrying the licence of a light motor vehicle (LMV).

Do not wait for claiming multiple accidents
Avoiding minor dents and waiting for a big one, and then claiming the multiple accidents is a wrong practice. Often due to lack of time, one tends to avoid claiming every time. But it becomes very difficult for the insurer to approve the previous accidental claims. However, the insurer normally approves repairing of up to 2 panels and the maximum of 3 panels in some peculiar cases. Though your insurer never restricts you from filing multiple claims, but it does not mean that you have to wait until a bigger accident happens.
