Policy rate hike will translate into higher EMIs for home loans

“With the rapidly changing geopolitical scenario that continues to pressurize the global supply chain and commodity prices, domestic policy rates were expected to be realigned to the changing scenario. Therefore, while not unexpected, as the RBI Governor had already shared concerns over rising inflation, the interest rate hike amidst rising input costs is expected to have its impact on real estate. The sector has vastly benefited by the low interest rates in the last two years. This policy rate hike will translate into higher EMIs for home loans. However, we believe that improved homebuyer attitude, preference for owning a house and strong wage growth will continue to support the housing market. The monetary policy stance is still accommodative and with the receding pandemic and economic growth, we expect that consumer demand will remain buoyant in the near term.”

Any upside bounce from current levels could find strong resistance around 16800-17000

“The area of 16800 has been instrumental with regards to a sustainable trend of Nifty in last few months. The market has displayed movement of around 1000 points after its downside breakout and next upside breakout of 16800-17000 levels in the past (24th Feb and 17th March respectively). Having broken again below the important support of 16800, the chances of further steep weakness in the near term. This anticipated market action could open a possibility of larger degree of lower bottom formation below 15670 levels in the next few weeks. Any upside bounce from here could find strong resistance around 16800-17000 levels. Immediate downside targets to be watched for Nifty around 16200 levels.”

More downside may be seen if 16600 is broken

“Nifty has broken the support zone of 16800-16850 and closed lower. On the daily chart, the Nifty has given a consolidation breakdown which suggests a negative bias for the near term. Daily RSI is in bearish crossover and falling. On the lower end, immediate support is seen at 16600. More downside may be seen if 16600 is broken. On the higher end, resistance is visible at 16800-16850.”

Continue with the “sell on rise” approach

“Markets plunged sharply lower and settled with a cut of over 2%. Participants were in a cautious mood from the beginning ahead of the US Fed meeting outcome scheduled tonight. However, the surprise rate hike by the RBI caught the participants completely off-guard and triggered a kick-jerk reaction. Apart from the policy tightening, hawkish commentary on inflation dragged the key indices lower and the Nifty finally settled around the day’s low to close at 16,667 levels. After the RBI’s surprise move, all eyes are on the US Fed meeting outcome. However, we feel their commentary on future rate hikes and inflation would be critical to set the market tone. On the index front, the Nifty has finally breached the consolidation range of 16800-17300 on the downside and now we’re eyeing the 16,400 zone. We suggest aligning positions accordingly and continuing with the “sell on rise” approach.”

Nifty may witness more weakness after breaking crucial support, but these trades could help pocket gains

After showing an intraday upside recovery from the lows on Monday, Nifty witnessed sharp weakness on Wednesday and closed the day steeply lower by 391 points. After opening with a positive note, the market slipped into weakness in the early to mid-part of the session. After the announcement of repo rate hike by RBI at 2 pm, the selling pressure got intensified with high volatility during the mid to later part of the session. A long bear candle was formed on the daily chart that has broken decisively below the important support of 16900-16800 levels. The present chart pattern also indicates a downside breakout of the broader high low range movement of around 17400-16900 levels. This could be considered as a downside breakout of crucial lower support in the market. This is not a good sign and could have more weakness for the short term.
