Midcap stocks continued to show stellar performance on Dalal Street as the BSE Midcap index surged 4.20 per cent in the first half of the ongoing calendar year, whereas benchmark index BSE Sensex advanced 3.21 per cent during the same period. On the other hand, BSE Smallcap index tumbled 1.17 per cent during the same period.
During the previous calendar year, the BSE Midcap index rose by 6.73 per cent whereas Smallcap index jumped 5.44 per cent during the year. However, Benchmark BSE Sensex fell 5 per cent in 2015.
Here is a list of top gainers and losers in the midcap, smallcap and largecap space.
SmallCap: In the smallcap space, stocks such as Shilpi Cable (up 178 per cent), Himadri Chemicals (up 119.66 per cent), Bannari Amman Sugar (up 103 per cent), Bodal Chemical (up 90 per cent) and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers (up 89 per cent) remained top gainers in the past six months.
Midcap: YES Bank ( up 51.10 per cent), Piramal Enterprises (up 43.07 per cent), JSW Steel (up 42.51 per cent), Biocon (up 42 per cent) and Shriram Transport Finance Company (up 38.98 per cent) remained among top gainers in the BSE Midcap space in the past six monts till June 30.
LargeCap: In the 30-share index Sensex, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Larsen & Toubro and Power Grid gained 25.11 per cent, 18.60 per cent, 18.34 per cent, 16.12 per cent and 15.69 per cent, respectively, during January 1 and June 30.
Smallcap: Visagar Polytex (down 93 per cent), Rainbow papers (down 88 per cent), Sunrise Asian (down 87 per cent), Tree House Education (down 75 per cent) and Ess Dee Aluminium (down 72 per cent) stood among top losers in the small cap space during Jan-June 2016.
Midcap: Reliance Communications (down 43.79 per cent) slid the most in the BSE Midcap index. It was followed by Wockhardt (down 41.81 per cent), Jaiprakash Associates (down 28.24 per cent), Jindal Steel and Power (down 28.15 per cent) and Oriental Bank of Commerce (down 25.10 per cent).
Largecap: Cipla (down 23.41 per cent), Adani Ports (down 22.73 per cent), Lupin (down 16.70 per cent), ONGC (down 10.77 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (down 9.71 per cent) stood among top five losers in the BSE Sensex pack.
