Indian benchmark indices continued their stellar run and made new life time highs in early trade today before settling at new closing highs. BSE Sensex the barometer index, rose 76.17 points or 0.25% to 30,658.77 points after reaching a new all-time high of 30,692.45 points, while the broader NSE Nifty50 gained 6.10 points or 0.06% to close at 9,518.35 points after hitting its new life-time high of 9,532.60 points.
Top performer of the day on both the benchmark indices was Tata Steel, which was up 8.1% at Rs 493.50 on the NSE, on the back of strong Q4 earnings announced yesterday. A strong EBITDA growth helped the company narrow its consolidated loss, while its standalone loss grew over 3 times.
Gold prices rose by Rs 160 to Rs 28,760 per 10 grams on the back of positive global cues, while Silver surged Rs 400 to Rs 39,300 per kg as industrial units and coin makers increased buying.

A total of 17 scrips on the 30-share Sensex ended higher whereas 13 scrips fell while on the 51-share Nifty, 24 scrips advanced while 27 scrips declined.
Major gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel up 7.95% at Rs 493.35; Tata Motors up 2.82% at Rs 449.65; ICICI Bank up 2.35% at Rs 309.80; Tata Consultancy Services up 0.99% at Rs 2,451.35; Asian Paints up 0.88% at Rs 1,153.85 and Mahindra & Mahindra up 0.86% at Rs 1,379.00.
Major losers were Wipro down 1.70% to Rs 506.05; Adani Ports down 1.40% at Rs 349.25; Cipla down 0.94% at Rs 559.10; Housing Development Finance Corp down 0.89% at Rs 1,552.65; Gas Authority of India Ltd down 0.56% at Rs 408.50 and ITC down 0.56% at Rs 281.85.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 6,808.38 crore, rising from Rs 4,985.91 crore registered during the yesterday’s trading session. Market breadth turned negative as 1,531 stocks declined while 1,269 stocks advanced and 172 remained unchanged.
The total market cap of BSE Sensex was Rs 51.5598 lakh crore. The Price to Earnings (PE) multiple of the Sensex stood at 23.21 while its Price to Book value (PB) multiple was at 2.97 and the Dividend Yield was at 1.32.
