Nifty 50, Sensex today at close: Indian benchmark indices ended higher on Friday, with the Sensex rising 330.92 points, or 0.43%, to 77,264.51, while the Nifty gained 84.80 points, or 0.35%, to 24,175.65.

IT stocks led the gains, with TCS surging 4.09%, followed by Infosys at 3.34%, Tech Mahindra at 3.18% and HCL Technologies at 2.68%. On the other hand, ICICI Bank fell 1.30%, while UltraTech Cement declined 1.18%, Asian Paints slipped 1.06% and ITC dropped 0.52%.

Tempsens Instruments (India) debuted on Indian exchanges on a significantly higher note. The stock was listed at Rs 634 on the NSE, which is a premium of 111.33% to the issue price.

Nifty 50, Sensex today at open: Indian equity markets opened Friday’s trade on a higher note following its Asian peers. The Nifty 50 opened the trade 40 points or 0.17% higher at 24,131, while the 30-stock index surged 192 points or 0.25% to open at 77,125.69.

The surge was led by tech stocks. Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCLTech, and Wipro were the top five gainers in the Nifty 50.

Share market today at pre-open: The global markets are trading in a wait-and-watch mode. Asian markets are giving mixed signals in early trade. Meanwhile, crude oil prices slipped to around $90 a barrel. However, GIFT Nifty is indicating a positive start for Indian markets. It is up 54 points or 0.22%. 

Earlier on Thursday, the Nifty 50 closed the session 0.48% lower at 24,090, while the BSE Sensex closed 0.70% lower at 76,934. 

Key global and domestic cues for August 28, 2026

Asian Markets

Asia-Pacific markets traded on a mixed note, as they await US Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s highly anticipated Jackson Hole speech for clues on the path of US interest rates. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 added 0.46%, while the Topix rose 0.74%. South Korea’s Kospi was down 0.36%, and the small-cap Kosdaq declined 1.28%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures were at 25,476 compared with the index’s last close of 25,565.74.

US futures

The futures contracts tied to US benchmarks were trading flat on Friday morning, awaiting Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh’s latest address. Futures tied to the S&P 500 index shed 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures lost 0.2%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures surged 16 points, or 0.03%.

US markets on Thursday

On Thursday, the US stock market closed on a higher note on the back of positive earnings from Nvidia. The tech-heavy Nasdaq index rose 1.57% to 26,541.35, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.72% and ended at 7,730.99. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 105.56 points, or 0.2%, and closed at 53,569.44.

Crude oil

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 0.23% to trade at $83.33 per barrel. On the other hand, Brent crude futures were trading 0.33% lower around $89.40, near the psychologically important level of $90. On COMEX, crude prices traded 0.17% lower at $83.39 a barrel.

Gold rate today

On COMEX, the precious metal was trading at $4,642.60 an ounce, down 0.46%.

The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 1,59,320 per 10 grams. The price of gold has fallen 0.13% from yesterday. The 24 kt gold rate today in Delhi is Rs 1,59,040 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today in India is Rs 1,19,490. The 24-carat gold rate in Dubai today is Rs 1,49,590.

Silver rate today

On COMEX, Silver prices traded 0.51% lower at $69.08 per troy ounce.

In India, the silver rate surged 0.67% to Rs 2.41 lakh per kilogram.

Silver had surged to record highs in January amid geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, with heavy speculative buying pushing prices higher, but soon faced volatility.

FII, DII data

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 298.26 crore. On the other hand, the Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 4,977.17 crore on August 27, 2026, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.

US dollar

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading 0.03% lower at 99.11. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.13% to close at 95.54 to the dollar on August 27.

Top sectors in Thursday’s trade

The Rubber sector’s stocks surged the most in Thursday’s trade, rising 1.18% in market capitalisation. Further, Tea/Coffee stocks were followed by the Plastics sector stocks, which were further followed by the Electronics stocks. However, the Small Finance sector stocks fell the most, declining 3.11%.
