Nifty 50, Sensex today at close: The capital markets closed Wednesday’s trade on a lower note after opening higher. The Nifty 50 closed the session 127 points or 0.52% lower at 24,208, while the 30-stock index settled 183 points or 0.24% lower at 77,473.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, JSW Steel, UltraTech Cement, and HDFC Life Insurance were the five top gainers in the Nifty 50.

Nifty 50, Sensex today at 1:30 PM: Indian equity markets have slipped into the red. The Nifty 50 was down 70 points or 0.29% to trade at 24,265, while the Sensex was down 57.64 points or 0.07% to trade at 77,598.

However, the banking stocks bucked the trend to trade higher. The Nifty Bank index surged 370 points or 0.64% to trade at 57,885.

Nifty 50, Sensex today at 12 Noon: Sensex and Nifty traded largely flat in afternoon deals on Wednesday, with the Sensex hovering around 77,650 and the Nifty 50 near 24,277. While crude oil prices slipped towards $85 per barrel, Asian Paints and IndiGo emerged among the top gainers, helping limit the downside in the benchmarks.

Nifty 50, Sensex today at open: The domestic capital markets opened on a higher note as crude oil prices slipped to trade near $85 a barrel on easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The Nifty 50 opened the trade 11.35 points or 0.05% higher at 24,345.90, while the BSE Sensex advanced 198.80 points or 0.26% to open at 77,854.89.

Asian Paints, InterGlobe Aviation, ICICI Bank, SBI Life Insurance, and HDFC Life Insurance were the top gainers in the Nifty 50.

Share market today at pre-open: The cues for Indian markets are positive this morning despite global peers trading on a lower note. This is due to a big fall in crude oil prices as they trade near $85 a barrel. The GIFT Nifty is indicating a higher start for Indian markets. It is up 45 points or 0.18%. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the Nifty 50 closed the session 0.48% higher at 24,335, while the BSE Sensex closed 0.37% higher at 77,656.

Asian Markets

Asia-Pacific markets traded on a lower note, following the US futures. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.5%, while the Topix surged 0.22%. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 0.12%, and the small-cap Kosdaq declined 1.30%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures were at 25,648, compared with the index’s last close of 25,511.1.

US futures

The futures contracts tied to US benchmarks were trading lower on Wednesday morning. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were flat. S&P 500 futures fell by 0.21% and Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.51%.

US markets on Tuesday

On Tuesday, the US stock market closed on a higher note on the back of falling yields and oil prices. The broader index gained 0.32% to close at 7,677.28, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.66% to 26,151.30. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 160.24 points, or 0.3%, to close at 53,577.40.

Crude oil

The reported return of US diplomats eased concerns over an immediate US-Iran escalation, prompting traders to unwind part of the geopolitical risk premium.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 2% to trade at $80.72 per barrel. On the other hand, Brent crude futures were trading 2.22% lower around $86.61, below the psychologically important level of $90. On COMEX, crude prices traded 1.71% lower at $80.95 a barrel.

Gold rate today

On COMEX, the precious metal was trading at $4,697.30 an ounce, up 0.06%.

The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 1,63,130 per 10 grams. The price of gold has fallen 0.04% from yesterday. The 24 kt gold rate today in Delhi is Rs 1,62,850 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today in India is Rs 1,22,347.5. The 24-carat gold rate in Dubai today is Rs 1,49,590.

Silver rate today

On COMEX, Silver prices traded 0.26% lower at $68.50 per troy ounce.

In India, the silver rate surged 0.11% to Rs 2.45 lakh per kilogram.

Silver had surged to record highs in January amid geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, with heavy speculative buying pushing prices higher, but soon faced volatility.

FII, DII data

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 1,593.53 crore. On the other hand, the Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 230.26 crore on August 25, 2026, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.

US dollar

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading flat at 98.90. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee appreciated 0.36% to close at 95.41 to the dollar on August 25.

Top sectors in Tuesday’s trade

The Fertilisers sector’s stocks surged the most in Tuesday’s trade, rising 3.6% in market capitalisation. Further, Beverages stocks were followed by the Transport sector stocks, which were further followed by the Shipping stocks. However, the Sugar sector stocks fell the most, declining 3%.
