Stock market at 3:30 pm: The Crude oil and US 10-year yield spiking put the bulls on the back foot in late trade today. The Sensex and the Nifty sold off 1% each as the macro concerns weighed on investor sentiment. The overall sentiment turned sour and financial bore the brunt of the sell-off. The cut was deep across key Nifty counters like BEL, Adani, Indigo and Shriram Finance. The small and midcaps too saw significant selling in afternoon trade and the cut was larger, close to 2%.

Stock market at 3:15 pm: It is a sharp selloff in afternoon trade. The Sensex and the Nifty are down nearly 1% each as the 10-year yield in the US breached the 5% mark. This coupled with the sharp 2% plus jump in Brent crude prices weighed on sentiment on the street.

The Indian markets are mirroring the trend seen across rest of Asia. The US dollar index strengthened, hovering near two-week highs.. In fact, even the emerging market currencies fell on as the US dollar strengthened after surging oil prices pushed the yield on the benchmark US bond to near two-decade highs.

Stock market at 1:45 pm: The markets are slipping fast in afternoon trade. The Nifty is now below 23,300 pulled lower by names like BEL, Adani and financial stocks. The Sensex is down 300 points now. This is more than 600 points lower from intra-day highs. The Index opened trading up 400 points. The US Futures point to further downside, and globally, investor focus continues to be on the high US yield.

The Nifty IT Index too has come off early highs but is still up 3% in a falling market. Arun Kailasan, Research Analyst, Geojit Investments, explained that “Indian IT stocks advanced sharply as investors reassessed the pace of AI-led disruption following comments from executives at leading AI companies advocating slower, more regulated development of frontier models.”

According to him, “the remarks eased fears of an abrupt displacement of traditional IT services models and implied a longer runway for domestic firms to reskill, reposition business models and monetise AI-linked opportunities. Improving sentiment, undemanding valuations combined with rupee depreciation which lifts realisations and margins on dollar-denominated earnings drove fresh buying across frontline names.”

Stock market today at 10 am: The markets reverse early gains, and the Nifty slides nearly 160 points from the day’s high point to below 23,400 levels. The Sensex, too have slipped to the red. BEL, Shriram Finance, Grasim and L&T are among the most prominent losers this morning. The tech stocks have, however, held on to their gains, with the Nifty IT Index up nearly 4%.

Stock market today at 9:15 am: The markets have opened on a stronger note despite negative global cues. They shrigged of the US Yield hardening and hitting 5% and respond to the changing narrative on AI. The Nifty is up over 100 points, holding above 23,500 and the Sensex climbed 400 points in early trade. The big winner today is undeniably tech. The Nifty IT Index is up over 4%. HDFC Bank is the other big winner this morning.

GIFT Nifty was trading 80 points higher, or 0.34%, above 23,500 in early trade, signalling a positive start for Indian equities after 1-day holiday due to Ganesh Chaturthi. However, weak Asian markets, rising Brent crude prices and higher US Treasury yields will remain in focus.

In the last trading session, the Sensex declined 120.83 points, or 0.16%, to close at 74,781.76, while the Nifty 50 fell 79.70 points, or 0.34%, to end at 23,398.10.
