Why is the Gold price moving today?
Gold prices were trending sideways as the dollar index picked up from its record lows. A firm dollar makes precious metals like gold more expensive for other currency holders, thereby denting demand. The prices of the yellow metal also retreated slightly from their record highs as reports emerged that the US Federal Reserve may ease its monetary policy stance.
US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is set to step down in May 2026. As per market speculation, US President Donald Trump is likely to replace Powell with a chairperson who will have a less dovish stance.

However, gold prices continue to trade near their record highs as geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, coupled with renewed tariff threats by Trump, keep the safe-haven demand for the precious metal elevated.
Outlook for Gold Investors
Analysts expect gold prices to remain range-bound in the near term as the dollar index recovers from its record lows. However, over the longer run, experts expect the precious metal to post strong gains amid geopolitical and economic tensions in the US, coupled with increasing bets of two rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve in 2026.
