As the country faces a surge in onion prices, some online grocery delivery start-ups are offering the kitchen staple at half the market price. PepperTap, a Gurgaon-based hyperlocal start-up, on Friday said it has priced onions at 50% less than the market price. “We established PepperTap to ease the grocery shopping challenges faced by consumers.
By offering this discounted sale, we wish to alleviate the consumer inconvenience caused due to this unexpected rise in onion prices,” said Navneet Singh, co-founder & CEO, PepperTap. The discount on onions will be available in 10 cities where the company’s service is available. Another start-up Fresh FalSabzi, launched a month ago by RSND Group, is offering onions at R40 per kg. “This isn’t a scheme or a special offer for us. We have always been a business that puts consumers at the heart of everything we conceive and do. Keeping this in mind, we made a conscious decision to keep our rates at R40 per kg,” said Rajesh Gupta, chairman, RSND Group. This offer, though, is available only in Delhi. Retail prices of onions have gone up to R80 per kg.
