Potato farmers in Jalandhar have distributed their produce free of cost after its prices fell in the market.

The farmers said that they were doing it to register their protest against the falling price of potatoes in the market. They also threatened to step up their protest if the government does not address their problem.

“Members of Jalandhar Potato Growers Association are distributing potatoes for free to register our protest. There are no customers for our produce in the market. Our production cost is around Rs. 50, 000 – Rs. 60, 000 per acre,” said one of the farmers.

“We are not getting any value for it in the market….Government should plan to export our produce. If government does not do anything about it then we will protest in a big way,’ he added.
