The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed on a flat note on Friday ahead of IIP data, due later in the day. Sensex closed 12 points lower at 25,610 while Nifty closed 1.20 points up at 7,789.30.
Among the sectoral indices on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the BSE Realty index gained the most — 0.73 per cent at 1,288.86, it was followed by BSE IT index (up 0.44 per cent) and BSE FMCG index (up 0.42 per cent). On the other hand, BSE Metal index and BSE Capital Goods index declined 1.53 per cent and 0.52 per cent at 7,197.95 and 15,951.38, respectively.
CNX NIFTY INDEX
In the 50-share Nifty index, BPCL, State Bank of India, Wipro, HDFC and Asian Paints gained between 1 per cent and 2 per cent. Cairn India, BHEL, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Vedanta lost between 2.5 per cent and 4 per cent.
Gaurav Jain, director, Hem Securities, said, “Indices traded in a narrow range throughout the day as investors stay cautious as the global worries are still on. Investors prefer to unwind their positions and awaits the domestic and global key macro economic data i.e July IIP numbers and key US data which will be released later in the day. Weak rupee too spoiled the sentiment.”
Overall market breadth for the day remained negative as advances to declines ratio for Nifty stood at 21:29 for the day. Volumes for Nifty stocks stood at 1,405 lakh against volumes of 1,652 lakh logged in Thursday’s trading session.
Shares of airlines industry were in limelight after Indigo Airlines on Thursday said that its net profit surged over 300 per cent for the financial year ended March 15 helped by fall in fuel prices and higher interest income. On the back of this news, shares of Spicejet and Jet Airways surged over 5 per cent in Friday’s session in anticipation of equally good numbers for these airlines in the upcoming results season.
Amtek Auto shares soared over 53.62 per cent to Rs 46.70 on Friday on reports that the company may look to sell stakes in overseas business to pare debt.
India’s economy grew a historically modest 7 per cent last quarter but industrial output has generally been strong. It is expected to have increased 3.5 per cent in July from a year ago, according to a Reuters poll.
Asian peers, Hang Seng and Nikkei slid 0.27 per cent and 0.19 per cent at 21,507 and 18,264, respectively, while Shanghai inched up 0.07 per cent at 3,200.23.

3.30 pm: Key benchmark indices closed on a flat note on Friday. Sensex closed 12 points lower at 25,610 while Nifty closed 1.20 points up at 7,789.30.
3.17 pm: Oil India (OIL) has received environment clearance from Ministry of Environment and Forest for drilling 20 wells in three blocks in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan for production of 1 mmscmd gas at an estimated cost of Rs 96 crore. The wells will be drilled in Dandewala, Bagitibba and Tanot mining lease blocks in Tanot village in Jaisalmer. OIL shares were up 0.28 per cent at Rs 444.60. Sensex was down 36 points at 25,585.
2.52 pm: Amtek Auto shares soared 65 per cent in the afternoon trade on Friday on reports that the company may look to sell stakes in overseas business to pare debt. The scrip was trading at Rs 50.12. So far, around 112.38 lakh shares of Amtek Auto exchanged hands on the BSE as compared with two-week average daily volume of 45.72 lakh shares. Sensex was up 34.40 points at 25,656.

2.39 pm: Suven Life Sciences shares were trading 1.06 per cent higher at Rs 234. The scrip opened at Rs 237 and had touched a high and low of Rs 242 and Rs 231.60, respectively, in trade so far. The company on Thursday informed BSE that it has secured one product patent from China, one product patent from Israel, one product patent from Mexico, one product patent from Singapore and one product patent from Sri Lanka corresponding to its New Chemical Entities (NCEs) for the treatment of disorders associated with Neurodegenerative diseases.
Sensex was up 41.87 points 25,664. Nifty was up 5.30 points at 7,793.
2.10 pm: Just Dial saw volume of 6.08 lakh shares, a 6.01-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 1.01 lakh shares. The scrip gained 0.49 per cent at Rs 804.05. Nifty was up 9 points at 7,797.
2.00 pm: Muthoot Finance is planning to raise Rs 500 crore through issuance of secured redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs). The share price of Muthoot Finance was trading 1.67 per cent higher at Rs 164.80. Sensex was flat at 25,622.
1.34 pm: State Bank of India was trading 0.88 per cent higher at Rs 229.60. The BSE Bankex was down 0.10 per cent at 18,975. Sensex was up 50.74 points at 25,672. Nifty was up 12 points at 7,800.10.
1.14 pm: Sensex trading flat, up 20.32 points at 25,642.49. Nifty down 0.50 per cent at 7,787.60. Reliance Industries shares down 0.92 per cent at Rs 859.00.
12.53 pm: Financial Technologies shares jumped nearly 9 per cent to Rs 119. The stock touched its 52-week high of Rs 262 on September 11, 2014.
12.48 pm: Deutsche Bank has given ‘buy’ rating to Bajaj Corp shares with target price of Rs 700. Bajaj Corp shares were trading 2.87 per cent higher at Rs 464.35. Sensex was up 0.19 per cent at 25,670.
12.27 pm: Tata Motors on Friday reported a 1.51 per cent increase in its global sales, including that of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) vehicles, to 74,639 units last month. The company had sold 73,524 units in August last year, Tata Motors said in a statement. Tata Motors shares were trading 0.61 per cent down at Rs 352.10. Sensex was up 0.38 per cent at 25,719.
11.45 am: Brooks Laboratories shares hit a lower circuit limit of 10 per cent at Rs 58.30 on BSE after the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) barred the company and its top executives from the securities markets for five years. Sensex was up 81.43 points at 25,703.
11.11 am: In the 50-share Nifty index, State Bank of India, Vedanta, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda were up between 1.40 per cent and 2.50 per cent. BHEL, Tata Power, HUL, GAIL and Tata Steel were down between 0.30 per cent and 1.40 per cent. Nifty was up 20 points at 7808. Sensex was up 50.65 points at 25,672.
10.40 am: Raymond shares gained as much as 2.6 per cent in the morning trade on Friday after the company informed stock exchanges on Thursday post market hours that the company’s unlisted wholly owned subsidiary company, Silver Spark Apparel, has completed the acquisition of Robot Systems on September 10, 2015. Sensex was up 115.99 points at 25,738.
10.16 am: The benchmark BSE Sensex was trading higher on Friday on buying in select blue-chip stocks ahead of IIP and inflation data to be released later in the day amid mixed global cues. Sensex was up 155 points at 25,785.
9.46 am: The rupee recovered 9 paise at 66.34 against the dollar in early trade today on fresh selling of
the US currency by exporters. Sensex was up 114.41 points at 25,737. Nifty was up 42.70 points at 7,830.
9.20 am: The BSE Realty index was up 1.12 per cent at 1,293.85. HDIL, Sobha and Prestige Estates were trading over 1.50 per cent higher at Rs 60.90, Rs 259 and Rs 208.30. Sensex was up 203 points at 25,825.
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened higher on Friday tracking positive global cues. Sensex opened 171.60 points up at 25,793.77. Nifty opened 45.70 points higher at 7,833.80.
All the sectoral indices on the Bombay Stock Exchange also opened in green.
Arvind Ltd informed BSE before market hours that it has marked its entry into the beauty and cosmetics segment through a partnership with SEPHORA, owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, a French Luxury Conglomerate.
Benchmark indices declined around 0.40 per cent on Thursday tracking sluggishness in the global market after gloomy Chinese data added to the level of anxiety.
