BS-III flash sale: Relief for dealers, 75% of stock sold

As reported earlier, out of the over 8 lakh BS III vehicles, two-wheeler inventory at 6.71 lakh was the highest. Dealers saw heavy rush of consumers on Friday and the showrooms are expected to remain open till late in the evening like 10 pm. Commercial vehicles, where the inventory is second highest at 97,000 after two wheelers, however, did not see much sales which is due to the nature of the product. Commercial vehicle manufacturers like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland plan to export the BS III vehicles.

According to several dealers of Honda Motorcycles and Scooters (HMSI) and Hero MotoCorp in Kolkata, Mumbai NCR Delhi, BS-III stocks of Splendor and Activa were sold out by Friday noon. On the both days (March 30 and 31) various dealer showrooms witnessed long queues with customers wanting to avail of the huge discounts which industry veterans have termed as “unheard of in the industry so far”.

For Hero, BS-III stocks in NCR, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, and in most of the metropolitan cities have been liquidated. Sales in some of the smaller towns like Agra or Meerut though has not been as good as in other parts of the country.

“We sell almost 700 two wheelers in a month but we sold near about 100 units in these two days. Most of the dealers in NCR have no stock of BS-III anymore. Customers have been standing since early morning and now we have to tell them that there are no stock,” said a dealer of Hero MotoCorp in Delhi.

According to dealers of HMSI, most of the stock of Activa was sold out on Thursday itself since discounts on offer were as high as `26,000. Sources in the company said that most of the Activa stocks have been sold out and motorcycle inventory is expected to be liquidated by the end of Friday. “We have cleared our Activa stock on Thursday itself. Generally HMSI doesn’t provide any discounts on Activa, so customers have grabbed the opportunity,” said a dealer in Kolkata.

For TVS also inventory of Jupiter in most of the metro and Tier1 cities was sold out by Friday noon. Most of the manufacturers are left with unpopular models.
