Zindagi, a channel which became popular for bringing stories from Pakistan on the Indian small screen, will now cease to do so and instead come up with new Indian and Turkish drama. Launched in 2014, the channel found loyal audience through shows like “Zindagi Gulzar Hai”, “Maat”, “Humsafar” and others.

The new line-up of Indian shows and serials will go on air from October 3. At a press conference in New Delhi, Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of Zee on putting an end to the Pakistani content said, “It’s an unfortunate decision that we had to take. When we started Zindagi, I promised Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that we will show their content, we did that, the audience here loved it, and these Pakistani actors entered our living rooms. But then something like Pathankot and Uri happen. If you want to fight, fight at the front, do not attack our soldiers when they are sleeping.”

Chandra added that the decision was taken after the deadly Uri attack and that Zindagi still has 3,000 hours of unseen Pakistani content His team reportedly called up Pakistani actors and musicians-such as Fawad Khan,Meesha Shafi and Mahira Khan to ask them to condemn it.

Joining Chandra on stage were actors, writers and producers of the new shows that will debut on October 3, including actor Anupam Kher, whose company is producing a show titled Khwaabon Ki Zamin Par.
