On the banks of the Kapila river, the temple town of Nanjangud came alive with the chants of thousands of devotees who had gathered to take part in the annual Srikanteshwara Swamy Rathotsava in Mysuru. The festival concluded with religious fervor and large numbers of pilgrims gathered to participate in the sacred festival of Lord Srikanteshwara Temple. Thousands of devotees across the country offered their prayers and took an active part in the Rathotsava as a part of the much-revered festival.

However, there was a big disappointment in store for many devotees gathered to celebrate the festival. For the first time in the history of the Rathotsava, the pulling of the Gowthama Ratham found itself delayed for over two hours. Disappointed by the turn of events, many devotees blamed this lapse on the officials concerned.

When devotees had begun to pull the rope of the Gowthama Ratha, the chariot did not budge an inch. Out of the three ropes tied on the chariot, two snapped even as the devotees were pulling the chariot. This caused injuries and confusion all around. Following this, officials quickly replaced the old ropes with new ones and the festival resumed after a delay of more than two hours.

Amidst the confusion, local reports cite that the District Administration held the temple management responsible for making these poor preparations and blamed the temple authorities for the delay.
