Dr. Hess was admitted to Frankfort Regional Hospital last Sunday and was waiting when she heard a woman screaming from another room.
Dr. Amanda Hess, when admitted into a hospital in Kentucky on Saturday, July 29, was expected to deliver only one child- her own. But, while she was on the bed to proceed with her delivery, she heard another woman wailing across the floor, two doors away. Being a doctor, she could not help but run to help the woman, who was undergoing complications in her delivery. The other woman, Leah Halliday-Johnson, was two doors down from Amanda’s room, delivering her baby when her umbilical cord wrapped itself around the baby’s neck. Dr. Amanda knew the baby needed immediate attention. Since she was aware that the on-call doctor was away, she hastily “put another gown on” to cover her back and “put some splash boots on” over her flip flops and rushed to deliver the baby. She obliged to her duty till the end until Mrs. Johnson’s baby was healthily delivered.
Dr. Amanda Hess, the superwoman, delivered her own baby – baby girl Ellen Joyce – the next day. A dedicated doctor that she is, Kentucky obstetrician Amanda Hess, became an internet sensation post her act of sheer generosity. Dr. Hess was admitted to Frankfort Regional Hospital last Sunday and was waiting when she heard a woman screaming from another room.
The wailing woman was reportedly one of Dr. Hess’ previous patients who had undergone a checkup under her a couple of days ago. Dr. Hess, who is also a member of the Physician Moms Group (PMG) said when she heard the woman screaming in the other room, she knew that the baby needed immediate attention. Hence, without thinking twice, she rushed to help the other woman.
