Valentines Day is upon us. Single or not, you are going to feel the “love in the air.” Of course, the variety of its pleasure is highly subjective to your relationship status at the moment. Well, those who find themselves to be lucky to be on the right side of their beloved, there is certain something that you must do; make sure you show them their worth in your lives. And what better way than a hug to show it? I mean, expect for kisses, romantic dinners and gifts. But think about this, 14 hours on a desk or on the field, dealing with the nuances of capitalism, and life in general, you go home to your significantly better half and he/she hugs you and make it alright, making those 14 hours worth it.
And if you still don’t trust my wise words, here are a few other reasons you should start hugging:
1) Scientifically speaking, hugs have a tendency to increase oxytocin layers, healing loneliness, isolation, anger, frustration and the likes of them. They also increase serotonin levels. which help in the boosting mood and creating the feeling of happiness. Among other medical uses, hugging helps in relaxing muscles, releases body tensions soothes pain among other things. It also helps you to build trust and thus opens ways of honest conversation.
2) Hugs help in strengthening the immune system. It helps in the stimulation of the thymus gland regulating the production of white blood cells, increasing your immunity, making you stronger against diseases. It boosts your self-esteem. It balances your nervous system. Remember the hugs and cuddles, you received from your parents as kids? Growing up, it imprints on you and hence helps you find the ability to self-love.
3) Your skin glows when you hug. The human skin shows a change in conductance on your giving and receiving a hug. The change in the moisture and glow of the skin shows a balanced state of the human body.
4) Hugs have the capability of showing you the importance of giving and take. Hugs educate you to learn the art of sharing. They teach you about how equally important it is to let love flow both ways. It is the best way of showing your love, gratitude, happiness, sharing your grief or anger with someone other than yourself. Hugs can help cure depression. Actual medicines are definitely needed but hugs have not done anyone any harm yet.
5)The exchange of positive energy when two people hug shows an investment in the relationship, encouraging empathy and understanding.
Besides, sometimes, you don’t even need any of the above reasons to do do. Just go ahead and hug the ones you truly love and value. You will find out for yourself.
