How two IITian friends are transforming the US e-commerce product review market

Both Pawan and Paramdeep began their journey at IITs, but their paths crossed only during their MBA studies at IIM Indore.

Online review, e commerce review, amazon review, lifestyle

When it comes to the world of online shopping, the importance of consumer reviews cannot be underestimated. A decade ago, it took multiple visits to different shops or websites to compare the prices of a product Fast forward to today and the rise of e-commerce has made price comparisons as simple as a few clicks. However, amidst this revolution, the product reviews space has remained relatively untouched. If you wanted genuine insights about a product, you were still left sifting through numerous online sources, with no guarantee that the reviews were authentic, even if they were coming from ‘experts.
This is not to suggest that there is a shortage of reviews.

Quite the opposite, both customer and expert reviews are abundant. Nevertheless, these reviews are widely dispersed. Extracting valuable insights from them manually is taxing and cumbersome. Now imagine having reviews of whatever you wish to buy under one roof- a review aggregator website. Picture this platform being available five years ago, in 2018, with the bonus of AI-driven analysis. Sounds surreal? Along with their other two Co-founders from the US, Pawan Prabhat, and Paramdeep Singh started working on this long before AI became popular.

Both Pawan and Paramdeep began their journey at IITs, but their paths crossed only during their MBA studies at IIM Indore. After a short stint in investment banking and consulting, they co-founded EduPristine, an EdTech company, funded by Accel Partners and which was eventually acquired by NYSE-listed AdTalem. After the success of EduPristine, Pawan and Paramdeep saw a new frontier beckoning- Artificial Intelligence.

They realised that AI was poised to revolutionise industries much like the internet did in its early days. With an eye for seizing the first-mover advantage, they co-founded Shorthills AI, aiming to provide end-to-end generative AI and data engineering solutions for US enterprises.

Pawan and Paramdeep also observed a critical gap in the e-commerce market when it came to reviews. While consumers were becoming increasingly discerning in their product choices, the scattered landscape of product reviews left them in the dark about whether a product would truly meet their expectations.

“The US E-commerce market is enormous, with revenues beyond trillion dollars,” said Pawan Prabhat. “Yet, the critical role of product reviews in shaping consumer behaviour was overlooked for a significant period, especially when we launched Shorthills in 2018.”

“The few expert reviews that did exist were scattered and often failed to capture the essence of the times. For a consumer to go through review platforms and expert recommendations is a tedious task, especially in the US where time is a luxury.” – added Paramdeep Singh.

Started with a dream to empower end-users through AI, Shorthills AI now thrives as a company powered by a team of techies, engineers, and creative minds who share a passion for innovation. Remarkably, the company is not only credited for being among the first 100 to build ChatGPT4 plugins but is, today, also among the World’s top 10 LangChain contributor companies- facts that speak of their position at the forefront of AI innovation. Shorthills AI’s journey is not only a story of technological innovation but a testimonial of the boundless possibilities that arise when minds, filled with dreams, come together to transform industries.
