Coronavirus Cases in India Today, New Coronavirus Variant Delta Plus Symptoms Updates: Even as health experts and an SBI report warn of the third wave of coronavirus infections hitting India in August next month, the daily caseload on Tuesday plunged to a four-month low, the bulletin by the health ministry said. At 34,703, India logged the lowest cases in the last 111 days, the official data said. The number of Covid fatalities has also gone down. The health ministry says that 553 people lost their lives due to Covid and related complications in the last 24 hours. This was the lowest fatality figure in 91 days. The national recovery rate has improved marginally to 97.17 per cent. While all these indicators show huge relief for people and the exhausted healthcare workers, doctors and other related staff, it is the low vaccination rate that may emerge as the new headache for the authorities. We had reported yesterday about how the week-on-week study shows some troubling signs in the ongoing vaccination drive.
The health ministry says that 45 lakh people were vaccinated on July 6. This is much lower in comparison with the first week of the new programme that saw around 60 lakh Covid jabs each day. Remember, the lower daily vaccination rate will only add to the overall target and will widen the shortfall.
The Centre has said that that it will target 1 crore daily Covid jabs from July-August. At the current rate, this seems a bit difficult. But still, we have the infra to achieve the goal.
Coming to the SBI report. An SBI report says that the third wave of the new Covid infections will hit India next month in August. The report says that the third wave will peak in the month of September. The report comes at a time when many people have resumed holiday travel. Recently a photo went viral. It showed a huge crowd of tourists gathered in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali. Health experts have warned that the early ‘unlock’ may prepone the arrival of the third wave. With the SBI report making this amply clear, the only way forward is to vaccinate at a much faster speed and urge people to follow the face mask discipline.
