India witnessed 11,739 fresh Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Sunday, numbers much lower than that recorded the previous day ( 15,940). The active cases in the country stood at 92,576, data released by the Ministry of Health showed.
India’s cumulative vaccination coverage crossed the 197 crore landmark milestone on Saturday, according to Press Information Bureau. More than 11 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Saturday till 7 pm. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently said that the country also developed a “robust and strong mechanism to counter the public health issues,”

Delhi records a 7.8 percent positivity rate
At least 666 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the national capital. Six more deaths were recorded and the positivity rate stood at 7.8 percent, according to data shared by the city health department here. Of the 9,497 beds in city hospitals, only 291 are occupied, up from 279 a day ago, while the beds at the Covid care centres and the Covid health centres are lying vacant, the department said.
Spike in containment zones in Delhi
Delhi now has 322 containment zones. The number of containment zones surged by almost 70% between June 17 and June 24 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. According to officials, family or neighborhood clusters are where the majority of the cases are being recorded and micro-containment zones, even with just one or two homes, are being created to stop the spread of the sickness.
Maharashtra Covid tally low due to ICMR glitch
Maharashtra on Saturday reported 1,728 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, lower than the actual rise. But the fall in numbers was due to a technical glitch in the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) portal. There were four fatalities, the state health department said. A day earlier, the state had reported 4,205 Covid-19 cases after breaching the 5,000-mark on Thursday.

Long Covid in infected kids can last at least 2 months
Children infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus can experience symptoms of long COVID lasting at least two months, according to a study published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health journal on Thursday.
