Dear Zindagi box office collections on day 2: This niche movie from Shahrukh Khan that also stars upcoming young actress Alia Bhatt has managed to pull off a magical trick that would have made the legendary Houdini proud – it has likely escaped from being tagged as a failure and each succeeding day from now on will go on to add to its lustre and help SRK and company make a decent profit. After a disappointing single-digit take on opening day of Rs 8.75 crore, that is Friday, the movie has entered into the double-digit space and collected as much as Rs 11.25 crore on day 2, which was Saturday. Considering that this was a film restricted to just 1100 theatres, instead of the 4000 to 5000 screens that his state-of-the-art commercial films command, this performance by Dear Zindagi is spectacular. Prediction was of course for much, much more, but considering how the opening day fared, fears were expressed that the movie may not even recover the Rs 22 crore in the opening weekend, when movies’ earnings are the best, that was spent on its budget. However, with the word of mouth boost being strong, the movie has not been a laggard and the filmmakers will definitely not be too disappointed.
Also, due to the positive audience reviews, the crowds in theatres seeking to watch Dear Zindagi will likely jump considerably. Also, considering that there is no other film of similar stature in theatres at the moment to compete with it, Dear Zindagi remains the top option for anyone looking to watch a film in cinemas. The timing of the release of the movie has not been excellent. Usually, the triumvirate of Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan grab the best holiday or extended weekends on offer. This ensures that their films get a huge windfall as more and more people go to cinemas on holiday. A working week release on Friday will never compare with a holiday release. Sadly, Dear Zindagi, which deserved a holiday release, was not given that opportunity.
Dear Zindagi prediction, courtesy the Saturday performance has just jumped well over Rs 50 cr figure (lifetime). It will depend a lot on Sunday’s performance of course. But Considering Saturday went well enough, Sunday can only get better. As such Dear Zindagi opening weekend collection is set to cross the Rs 30 cr mark. SRK may well have created a different template for Bollywood with Dear Zindagi that other actors will look to emulate. They will surely look to create small budget, irreverent movies that appeal to a niche audience in big towns and that too confined to the multiplexes. If so, Shahrukh Khan will have added another feather to his cap – that of a visionary!
