With Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announcing their intention to divorce after years of living together and some 2 years after their marriage, reactions are pouring in from various sources. While both had a string of lovers over the years, Pitt having famously had relationships with some of the most beautiful women in the world including actress Shalene McCall, Robbin Givens, Christina Applegate to Gwyneth Paltrow, but it was his relationship with Friends star Jennnifer Aniston that really caught the public imagination. They were Hollywood’s then hottest couple. They married in 2000, but filed for divorce in 2005 after Pitt and Jolie started a relationship. In the public’s eye, Aniston was the wronged figure and both Jolie and Pitt were criticised heavily in the aftermath of that divorce.
Now, with Jolie and Pitt deciding to go their separate ways (no, no other woman or man involved. Ostensibly, Jolie is furious at Brad Pitts parenting skills, or the lack of them, and since he is not changing his ways, the separation has been announced). They have as many as 6 children, three of them adopted and all of them are getting near an age when discipline becomes crucial – Maddox is (15), Pax (12), Zahara (11), Shiloh (10) and twins Vivienne and Knox (8).
It did not take much for Jennifer Aniston, 47, the proverbial ‘good girl’, to react to the Pitt-Jolie divorce call. In fact, Aniston could not stop herself reacting in a cutting manner saying, “Yeah, that’s karma for you!” The report appeared in Us weekly.
In effect, what Aniston was saying was that the divorce was a sort of a punishment or retribution for the way she was treated 11 years ago when Pitt and Jolie got together during the shooting of the film Mr & Mrs Smith.
Over the years, Aniston, though she played the ‘victim’ card to the hilt, had been more or less diplomatic about the Pitt-Jolie relationship, even though she sought, and received, sympathy from the world over the way she was treated by Pitt.
The divorce proceedings have reportedly been set into motion by Angelina Jolie and not Pitt. She has cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ in the papers and has requested that the custody of the children should be given to her alone even though visitation rights would be given to him.
