In a country characterised as ‘price sensitive’ and ‘emerging market’, a new wave of luxury is hitting the living rooms. French audio company Devialet has launched speakers worth lakhs of rupees, and believes there is market in India for at least a few hundred units of each speaker. These include the Phantom Ultimate 108 dB versions priced Rs 408,999 to Rs 482,999, and Phantom Ultimate 98 dB versions priced from Rs 199,999 to Rs 232,999.

Martin Ku, general manager, APAC, Devialet, told FE that the company is targeting a growing segment of Indian consumers who view high-end audio not just as a gadget, but as a piece of functional art.

In this elite ultra-premium category, Devialet competes directly with global luxury heavyweights such as Bang & Olufsen and Bowers & Wilkins, who also cater to India’s billionaires and HNIs (high net-worth individuals).

“It has been 10 years since the original Phantom speaker first shocked the industry with its alien-like design and massive power,” Ku said. “The new Phantom Ultimate is the next evolution of that icon. Designed and assembled in Paris, the speaker maintains its famous spherical look but has been refined for even better clarity.”

Sensory Engineering

For the listener, it isn’t just about volume, but about physical sensation. Devialet has packed the speaker with technology that allows you to feel the bass in your chest – reaching frequencies as low as 14 Hz – reproducing the depth of a live concert or a high-end cinema in your living room.

22-Carat Gold & Wi-Fi 6

“The Phantom Ultimate isn’t just a black box in the corner of your room, but comes in striking designs and colours such as deep forest, light pearl, and the top-end opéra de Paris featuring 22-carat gold leaf,” Ku added. “It’s also smarter, with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and works seamlessly with Spotify, AirPlay, and Google Cast. A redesigned Devialet app acts as a command centre, allowing users to switch between music mode for pure listening and cinema mode for videos.”

These speakers are available at the Devialet website, and authorised retailers.
