Tesla and xAI CEO Elon Musk has launched an unusually sharp public attack on rival artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, accusing its flagship AI model Claude of being “misanthropic and evil” and even claiming it hates certain demographic groups.

The comments came in response to Anthropic’s announcement that it had raised a staggering $30 billion in a funding round, valuing the company at roughly $380 billion, one of the largest private tech financings ever seen.

In a post on X, Musk directly challenged Anthropic’s celebratory funding news, saying: “Your AI hates Whites & Asians, especially Chinese, heterosexuals and men. This is misanthropic and evil. Fix it.”

He went on to mock the company’s name ‘Anthropic’, which refers to humanity, suggesting it was ironic that the company’s AI systems might be hostile to people, and declaring that there was no way for it to escape becoming “misanthropic.”

“Frankly, I don’t think there is anything you can do to escape the inevitable irony of Anthropic ending up being Misanthropic. You were doomed to this fate when you chose your name. The Name of the Wind,” Musk wrote on X.

‘You are jealous’

The remarks triggered significant attention on social media, drawing millions of views within hours and generating mixed reactions.

While some users claimed to have personally experienced biased responses from Claude in their interactions, others pushed back against Musk’s characterisation, noting that his own AI chatbot Grok (from xAI), also grapples with quality and accuracy challenges.

“You are jealous that Claude is so much more accurate than Grok. I do not even use Grok at all it makes so many mistakes. How wants output that just gets it wrong 100% of the time? Nobody. Well, except maybe Elon Musk,” a user wrote.

Musk’s past row with Anthropic

Musk’s criticism is not entirely new. The rivalry between Musk’s xAI and Anthropic has roots beyond public posts. Earlier tensions included reports that Anthropic restricted xAI’s access to its Claude models via developer platforms, a move that Musk publicly criticised as poor judgment.

Anthropic, led by CEO Dario Amodei, is positioning Claude as a leading competitor to other major AI systems from OpenAI and Google, even as it emphasises safety and ethical alignment. Musk, meanwhile, continues to champion Grok as a “truth-seeking” alternative in the growing race among frontier AI developers.
