The delay of GTA 6’s release has led to disappointment in the gaming community. Initially teased in December 2023, the game went through multiple release date postponements before settling on a November 2026 release schedule. While fans pin their hopes on the Rockstar Games’ promised date, a terminally ill fan figured out that he may not be able to see the video game prior to his demise. His relative, however, decided to reach out to Rockstar Games for help.

In a heart-warming display of compassion amid the intense anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games has reportedly arranged an early play session for a terminally ill fan who feared he might not live long enough to experience the highly awaited game.

Early access to GTA 6 for terminally ill fan

The story began in December 2025 when Anthony Armstrong, a UI Integrator at Ubisoft Toronto, shared a heartfelt plea on LinkedIn on behalf of a close family member — a lifelong GTA enthusiast living near Rockstar’s Oakville studio. The fan, who has been battling cancer for years, recently received a devastating prognosis of just 6-12 months to live. With GTA 6 facing multiple delays and now scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, Armstrong expressed concern that his relative might miss out on the game entirely.

In his now-deleted LinkedIn post, Armstrong directly appealed to connections at Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto, offering to sign an NDA if needed to maintain the company’s strict secrecy around the project. The message quickly went viral, drawing widespread support and shares across social media.

Weeks later, Armstrong provided hopeful updates. The CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company), Strauss Zelnick, personally reached out, and discussions with the Rockstar team followed. In a final update before deleting the thread, likely due to NDA obligations, Armstrong shared, “We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

While Rockstar Games has not issued an official statement, and details remain limited, reports across gaming outlets and social media indicate that the company arranged a private early gameplay session for the fan. This move echoes a previous instance in 2018 when Rockstar granted early access to Red Dead Redemption 2 for another terminally ill fan.

GTA 6 release planned for November 2026

This instance comes amid the massive hype building for GTA 6 following its second trailer and confirmed November 19, 2026 launch date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game’s return to a modern-day Vice City-inspired setting in the state of Leonida has fans eagerly awaiting more details. Fans will get to play as Jason and Lucia, a lovestruck couple living through their hardships in the fictional take of Florida. The game is set to release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, with Rockstar Games expected to release a PC version the following year.
