Poco C85 5G Review: Big battery and reliable performance on a budget

Poco has recently expanded its budget lineup with the launch of the Poco C85, aimed at users looking for an affordable smartphone with essential features. The device focuses on delivering reliable day-to-day performance, a modern design, and a value-for-money experience, making it a practical choice for budget-conscious buyers.

The phone is clearly aimed at users who want a large display, reliable everyday performance, and strong battery life without spending too much. While it doesn’t try to be flashy, the Poco C85 focuses on delivering solid basics that matter in the budget segment. I spent some time using the 128GB variant to see how it performs in real-world usage

Display

The Poco C85 comes with a huge 6.9-inch display, which is easily one of the biggest screens available in this segment. For watching videos, scrolling through social media, or even reading articles, the large display makes a noticeable difference.

I also found the screen to be fairly bright for its price range. While it’s not meant to compete with premium phones, it performs well indoors and remains usable outdoors. For a budget device, the display experience is definitely one of its stronger points.

Processor

Powering the phone is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, which I’d describe as a decent processor for the under-Rs 20,000 segment. The Poco C85 is available in 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM variants, giving buyers flexibility based on their usage.

Coming from a flagship phone, I did notice that the device felt slow at times, especially while switching between apps. That said, for regular tasks like calling, messaging, browsing, and social media, the phone performs fine. Casual gaming, including PUBG, is possible, but during prolonged gaming sessions, the phone tends to throttle and lag. It’s usable, but not meant for heavy or long gaming sessions.

Camera

The Poco C85 features a 50MP rear camera, and for the price, I found the photo quality decent. Daylight shots come out clear enough with acceptable detail, making them suitable for everyday use.

On the front, the 8MP selfie camera performs well for the segment. Selfies look good in proper lighting and are more than adequate for video calls and social media posts. Overall, the camera setup delivers what you’d expect at this price point—nothing extraordinary, but reliable.

Design

In terms of design, the Poco C85 surprised me in a good way. Despite having such a large display, the phone feels slim and comfortable to hold. The weight distribution is decent, making it easier to use for longer periods without fatigue.

The phone is available in multiple colour options, including Black, Blue, and Green, giving users some choice depending on their preference. While the build is clearly plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap and looks quite modern for a budget smartphone.

Battery

Battery life is one of the strongest highlights of the Poco C85. The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery, and in my usage, it easily lasted up to two days. On a heavy-use day, I watched multiple episodes of Stranger Things Season 5, listened to music afterward, and still had enough battery left to comfortably get through the evening.

For users who hate charging their phone frequently, this kind of battery endurance is a big advantage and makes the Poco C85 very dependable for daily use.

Conclusion

The Poco C85 is a solid budget smartphone that delivers where it matters most. Its large 6.9-inch display, reliable battery life, and decent performance make it a good option in the under Rs 20,000 category. While it has limitations in multitasking and prolonged gaming, it makes up for them with practicality and endurance. If you’re looking for a big-screen phone with excellent battery life at a budget price, the Poco C85 is worth considering.
