Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that artificial intelligence has become powerful enough for one person to do the work that earlier needed an entire team. His comments came during Meta’s recent earnings call and have started discussions about how AI could change jobs in the tech industry.
During the latest earnings call Mark said “We’re starting to see projects that used to require big teams now be accomplished by a single very talented person,” For him, the focus is on attracting individuals who can use these tools to their full potential. “I want to make sure that as many of these very talented people as possible choose Meta as the place that they can make the greatest impact.”
AI Helping Employees Do More
According to Mark Zuckerberg, new AI tools inside Meta are helping skilled employees work faster and handle more complex tasks on their own. These tools are especially useful for engineers, as AI can now help write, review, and manage code. This means fewer people may be needed to complete projects that once required large teams.
Meta has already seen productivity improve because of these tools. According to him the company encouraged by this progress, plans to increase its spending on AI by around 70% this year. Mark Zuckerberg believes that AI will play a major role in shaping how work is done in the near future.
AI Will Meta Cut More Jobs?
Mark Zuckerberg did not directly say that Meta will lay off more employees. However, his remarks have raised concerns, especially after several rounds of job cuts across the tech industry in recent years. When AI can do routine work faster, companies may feel less need to maintain large teams.
Meta’s Chief Financial Officer Susan Li tried to reassure employees and investors. She said the company is still hiring in important areas such as infrastructure, monetisation, regulation, and AI research. In fact, Meta’s total workforce grew by 6% compared to last year, showing that the company is still expanding in key roles.
Wider Tech Industry Trend
Meta is not alone in using AI to improve efficiency. Other major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have also reduced management layers and changed how teams work. Many of them have said that AI is already helping write a large portion of software code.
Some companies are also reducing entry-level roles as AI takes over basic tasks. This has led to concerns about job security and how workers should adapt to an AI-driven workplace.
