Google on Thursday held its annual Google for India event, where the company made a number of announcements aimed at the Indian market.

The company at its 9th edition of the Google for India event talked about new ways they are using AI to improve their products and services.

These improvements include making the internet more useful and inclusive, helping merchants connect with customers more effectively, and partnering with local organisations to make it easier for people to access credit.

Here are all the top announcements that were made today at the event in New Delhi

Made-in-India Pixel: Google announced that it will be manufacturing its Pixel smartphones in India for the first time. This is a significant move, as it will make Pixel smartphones more affordable and accessible to Indian consumers. It did not reveal the names of the manufacturers but said that it would join hands with domestic and international manufacturers to make Pixel phones locally. The manufacturing will start with the latest Pixel flagships with the first made-in-India Pixel phone to come to market in 2024.

“India is a priority market for Pixel smartphones, and we’re committed to bringing the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to people across the country,” said the company.

DigiKavach: Google announced Digi Kavach, an early threat detection and warning system designed to keep internet users safe from scams. It will be launched as a pilot project in India with other countries to follow soon.

Watch Page for News: Google announced a new Watch Page for News on Google Search, which will make it easier for Indian users to watch news videos from Indian news outlets. It will bring together a diverse and credible range of news sources on YouTube for viewers who want to go beyond the headlines and explore a story, recommending content across video on demand, livestreams, podcasts, and Shorts, according to Google. It will be available in 11 Indian languages.

Google to make Chromebooks in India: Google in collaboration with HP will start to manufacture HP Chromebooks in India. These are affordable laptops meant for students to ensure that education is not hindered due to access, These laptops are powered by Google’s ChromeOS operating system.

Google Play Protect is more secure: Google Play Protect now comes with enhanced real-time code level scanning in India. It will protect users from real-time threats online.

Google Maps for metro ticket booking: Google has collaborated with ONDC to enable booking tickets right within the app. The feature will come in the next few months.
