Elon Musk grabbed attention at the World Economic Forum 2026 with his bold ideas. Although he was making his first appearance at the Davos summit, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO spoke about Mars, artificial intelligence, robots, and the challenges that come with fast-moving technology

A Joke About Mars

During a conversation with BlackRock CEO Laurence D. Fink, Elon Musk was asked if he wanted to die on Mars. Smiling,Elon Musk replied, “Yes — just not on impact.” The joke instantly drew laughter from the audience and became one of the most talked-about moments of the event.

While the comment was light-hearted, it reflected Elon Musk’s long-term dream of making humans a multi-planet species. He said SpaceX’s Starship rocket remains key to sending people and cargo to Mars in the future. According to Elon Musk, progress is steady, even if timelines remain ambitious.

AI Could Move Faster Than Expected

Elon Musk also spoke about artificial intelligence and warned that its growth could be much faster than most people expect. He believes AI may become smarter than humans as early as next year. While this sounds alarming, Elon Musk said such progress could also unlock major benefits if handled responsibly.

He added that AI development is moving so fast that computing power may soon be limited not by chips, but by electricity.

Robots and the Future of Work

Another major topic was Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus. Elon Musk admitted the project has faced delays but said the robot could be ready for sale within the next two years. He believes such robots could eventually help in factories, offices, and even homes, changing how people work and live.

Energy Challenges and Space Solutions

Elon Musk highlighted the growing energy demand from AI data centres. He warned that power shortages could slow down innovation. To solve this, he suggested an unusual idea generating solar power in space.

According to Elon Musk, solar panels in space could produce constant energy without weather issues, making them more efficient than panels on Earth. He even suggested that future data centres might operate from space.

Optimism

Throughout the discussion, Elon Musk kept a relaxed tone and encouraged optimism. He said believing in a positive future often leads to better outcomes than constant fear.

At a forum which is known for serious debates, Elon Musk’s bold vision stood out reminding everyone why he remains one of the most influential and talked-about figures in global technology.
