Apple won’t repair THESE iPhones, iPads and Watch models anymore: Check if you device is on the list

According to Apple’s long-standing policy, a product reaches obsolete status seven years after the company last distributed it via its official sales channel.

iPhone SE 2016
The original iPhone SE from 2016 is now in Apple's obsolete devices category.

Every year, Apple updates its obsolete device list, adding older models that no longer receive any software support from the brand. For this year, Apple’s obsolete devices list has received five new products from years ago, thus signalling users of these devices to upgrade to newer equivalent products from the brand.

The obsolete list of devices is those models from Apple that will no longer receive hardware repair support from the brand. These products had already stopped getting software updates a long time ago, and now, Apple is stopping hardware support for these. Hence, if you still rock one of these devices and seek repair from Apple, you won’t find replacement parts as well as official repair service from Apple’s official service center.

Which Apple devices are declared obsolete in December 2025

The newly declared obsolete products include the original iPhone SE from 2016, the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the Apple Watch Series 4 (Hermès and Nike editions), and the Beats Pill 2.0 wireless speaker. These add to the other popular devices from the yesteryears like the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPad 5th Gen, and more.

According to Apple’s long-standing policy, a product reaches obsolete status seven years after the company last distributed it via its official sales channel. Users won’t get any service from an Apple Authorised Service Provider, including the spare parts for these items. While there are limited exceptions, such as an extended 10-year battery-only repair window for certain Mac laptops (subject to parts availability), this is generally not applicable to iPhones or iPads.

However, owners of these devices can rely solely on third-party repair services or consider upgrading.

New obsolete devices list: A brief history

iPhone SE: Launched in 2016 and discontinued in September 2018, the compact 4-inch phone was celebrated by fans who preferred a smaller form factor and was one of the last iPhones to feature a traditional headphone jack. Having already stopped receiving major iOS updates after iOS 15, its move to the obsolete list confirms its status as a historical device.

12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd Generation): Released in 2017, this iPad holds significant historical importance in Apple’s display technology. It was the pioneer for the company’s ProMotion 120Hz display technology, a high-refresh-rate feature that eventually migrated to the iPhone Pro line and is now common across all its flagship devices.

Apple Watch Series 4 Hermès and Nike models: These specialised versions of the Apple Watch Series 4 – a device that debuted the ECG heart-monitoring feature, also join the list. Though the standard Watch Series 4 currently remains in the vintage category (products between five and seven years after discontinuation), its specialised counterparts have accelerated to the end of life.
