Google CEO Sundar Pichai has joined leaders from Google DeepMind to deliver an inspiring message to the global developer community – embrace bold innovation with the company’s latest AI advancements. In a video shared on the Google for Developers X account (formerly Twitter), Pichai encouraged participants in DevFest — Google’s annual worldwide developer festival — to push boundaries as AI capabilities expand dramatically.
The message, released amid ongoing DevFest 2026 events organised by local Google Developer Groups (GDGs), highlights how AI is transforming software development across industries. Pichai highlighted that this generation of developers holds the key to solving humanity’s most pressing challenges.
Key messages from Google leadership
Pichai stated, “It’s this generation of developers that will crack open our most important problems. That’s why we are working to put our latest breakthroughs, including our Gemini and Gemma models directly in your hands. All to say, it’s an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see what we will build together.”
Logan Kilpatrick, Group Product Manager at Google DeepMind, underscored the exponential growth in developer potential, “What’s possible for you to build, and how ambitious you can be as a developer, is increasing something like 10 to 100 X over what it was a couple of years ago. So be as ambitious as you can possibly be.”
Paige Bailey, DevX Engineering Lead at Google DeepMind, reinforced AI’s practical role, “AI isn’t just a concept. It’s a practical tool ready to augment your abilities as a developer. All of these tools are designed to be responsible, safe, secure, and scalable. Giving you the confidence to build and to innovate. The power to create the next generation of intelligent applications is in your hands.”
Focus on safe, scalable AI
The video promotes Google’s ecosystem of AI tools, including the Gemini family of models and open-source Gemma, which have seen expanded access through new APIs, AI Studio, and broader developer integration. Google has positioned these as responsible alternatives, prioritising safety, security, and scalability to enable confident building of intelligent apps.
Pichai and the DeepMind team urged developers to connect with local GDGs for workshops, hackathons, study groups, and hands-on guidance on leveraging Google’s AI stack. The post included a link to find nearby communities, fostering collaboration and innovation at the grassroots level.
This outreach aligns with Google’s intensified efforts to compete in the generative AI space, following major releases in 2025 and ongoing investments in DeepMind. By making frontier models more accessible, Google aims to empower developers, from students to professionals, to experiment, prototype, and ship ambitious projects faster than ever.
