The 77th Republic Day celebration is just around the corner and everyone is gearing up to witness the parade like never before. The yearly Republic day parade will take place at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, but will be a special mix of history and modern military power. The Republic Day parade would be all about showing how far the country has come while remembering the heroes who fought for our freedom.

Republic Day Parade 2026: Chief Guests from Europe

In a major diplomatic first, India has invited two of the European Union’s most powerful leaders as Chief guests. President of the European Council, António Costa, and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be attending together. Their presence is a big signal of India’s growing ties with Europe, especially with the India-EU Free Trade Agreement talks being a major focus.

Celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram

The heart of the 2026 celebrations is the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, Vande Mataram. Composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, the song’s legacy will be visible everywhere. Along Kartavya Path, spectators will see beautiful paintings from 1923 that illustrate the verses of the song. Everything from the invitation cards to the floral decorations around the main stage will follow this theme, reminding everyone of the spirit that drove India toward independence.

The ‘battle array’ and new military milestones

The Indian Army is introducing a brand-new format for the parade called the “Phased Battle Array.” Instead of just marching in lines, military assets will roll down Kartavya Path in the sequence they would actually appear on a battlefield. It starts with ‘Reconnaissance’ units like the newly raised Bhairav light commando battalion, followed by strike forces like the T-90 and Arjun tanks.

High-tech displays and aerial spectacles

The parade will showcase India’s newest homegrown technology. This year, you can expect to see indigenous drones, “Robotic Mules,” and powerful missile systems like the BrahMos and Akash. The 77th Republic day parade will end with the flypast, with 29 aircraft including Rafale and Su-30 jets. In another new twist, even the aerial display will follow the “battle array” format, showing how different aircraft work together during an actual mission.

A parade focused on the people

The government is making an effort to move away from “VIP culture” this year. All the seating enclosures have been renamed after famous Indian rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, and Narmada. Around 10,000 ‘Special Guests’ have been invited, including farmers, artisans, and scientists, to represent the strength of ordinary citizens. To help everyone attend, the Delhi Metro will start its services as early as 3:00 am on Monday and offer free rides to anyone with a parade ticket.
