New Zomato CEO Albinder Dhindsa: In a historic business move yesterday, former Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal stepped down from his post, passing on the baton to his co-founder, Albinder Dhindsa. This leadership change in the house of Eternal Ltd. brought BlinkIt’s headliner’s personal life to the spotlight, too. With a net-worth of over Rs 9000 crore, here’s a look at another pillar of Zomato, Albinder Dhandsa’s wife, Akriti Chopra.
Dhandsa is set to assume control over the group from February 1, after Zomato acquired Grofers in 2013 in a $568 million deal. While Albinder tends to maintain a low profile, reports suggest that he does have a swanky car collection. From a Rs 2 crore Range Rover to a Rs 2.4 crore BMW, the new Zomato CEO tends to roll in style.
Who is Akriti Chopra?
Akriti Chopra has been associated with Zomato for over a decade. Born in 1988, she completed her education from Delhi Public School, RK Pura and attended Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. After completing a Bachelor of Commerce, she became a qualified Chartered Accountant, having trained with PwC in tax and regulatory practices.
Chopra’s association began with Zomato in 2011, as a senior manager in finance and operations. In the early years of the company, she held key leadership roles, including chief financial officer in 2019. Ahead of Zomato’s IPO, she was named a co-founder and later became the company’s chief people officer.
During her tenure, Chopra contributed to strengthening Zomato’s internal system and in-house operations. She helped set up a legal, governance, risk, and compliance team and was a key player when Zomato went through several private funding rounds. She even helped the food delivery app establish its global expansion phase; however, the company stepped back.
In September 2024, Chopra stepped down from her role to pursue other interests, closing a 13-year chapter with the billion-dollar firm.
Zomato’s leadership change
In the mid hours of January 21, Deepinder Goyal released a statement and startled the stock exchange. Withdrawing from his role at Zomato, Goyal explained his motivation behind the drastic move. As several industrialists appreciated the move, Goyal tried his best to reassure the stakeholders about the leadership change to Albinder Dhindsa.
