Sadhguru shares a sombre message on Makar Sankranti, highlighting the heartbreaking state of farming in India.

Spiritual leader Sadhguru has been an active advocate for soil health and pollution. On the holy occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Isha Foundation founder addressed the rampant soil crisis in India, calling the farming conditions ‘heartbreaking’. His sombre warning on this day, which marks the harvest festival of India, came as a larger approach to secure food and water for future generations.

The yoga expert also called for securing the future of agriculture and soil protection, a common practice in his sermons. Headlining the vibrant Makar Sankranti celebrations at Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bengaluru, he also pointed at the degrading plight of farmers, soil, and the community.

‘2 minutes a day’ policy

Sadhguru urged his audience to go beyond mere celebration and take responsibility for the environment, this Makar Sankranti. His ‘2 minutes a day’ policy is aimed at raising awareness and reinforcing positive action towards the soil and water crisis. “Research something on your phone and say something about the soil of this country, the water in this country, the food situation in this country, and the farmers’ plight in this country. Every day. 2 minutes…Just 2 minutes a day for the future food of the children,” he said.

Makar Sankranti is also marked as the shift to warmer days and the start of a new phase in the Hindu calendar. Explaining the significance, Sadhguru explained, “Sankranti or Makara Sankranti… we must understand that these festivals are not invented by us, not made up. They have something to do with the celestial moment of this planet.” Sadhguru added, “If you live in harmony, if you live in tune with natural forces, you can dance your life through, your life will become a dance. Otherwise, life could become a torturous process.”

With this futuristic advocacy, Sadhguru also announced a 5-day consecration event in the land of the Adiyogi in Bengaluru, including Linga Bhairavi’s Abode, Teerthkunds and Navagraha Temple.
