Zubeen Garg death probe: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested an Assam Police Service (APS) officer, Sandipan Garg, in connection with the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta told ANI. So far, five persons have been arrested, including main event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg’s Manager Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.

The death of the celebrated singer led to his home ground declaring a 3-day state mourning. Thousands of his fans and followers filled the streets of Assam during his funeral. The 52-year-old described himself as the “king” of Assam.

The arrested is a cousin of Garg and is currently posted as the deputy superintendent for Kamrup district. The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) (Kamrup-Metropolitan) district has sent Garg to a 14-day police custody.

Why was Sandipan Garg arrested?

As per reports, Sandipan Garg was among the 17 others in the yacht party. He was among the very few people who saw Zubeen Garg alive in his last moments. Assam CM Himanta Biswas Sarma revealed that Garg took off his life jacket minutes after he dived in the water, which is one of the many explanations for the reason of Zubeen Garg’s death.

Negating the theory of scuba diving, Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima, revealed that the singer-songwriter had a history of seizures. While the family is complete disturbed by the events, they only seek justice for their ‘Goldie’, Zubeen was lovingly called.

Sandipan Garg’s arrest comes as the fifth arrest in Zubeen Garg’s death probe. He was questioned in the early stages of the investigation and was on the radar. Son of Zubeen Garg’s paternal uncle, Sandipan, is set to appear before the CJM of Kamrup, following his arrest.
