Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu-starrer Varanasi has finally locked its release date. SS Rajamouli’s big-scale movie is set to arrive next year on the occasion of Ugadi and Gudi Padwa.
Soon after mysterious hoardings of SS Rajamouli‘s film appeared overnight in the city of Varanasi hinting at its release date, the filmmaker has made an official confirmation about his upcoming time travel adventure.
The film got its official title back in November 2024 in a star-studded event organised in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City. Earlier known by its working title Globetrotter, little was known about the flick back then. The teaser carried hints about the intense storyline of the movie spanning across different time periods and locations from Antarctica, Varanasi, Kenya, 512 CE, 2027 CE, and even the Treta Yuga.
When is Varanasi releasing?
Rajamouli took to social media to share a fresh poster from the film carrying its release date. Turns out the Varanasi hoardings carried the correct release date of the film as it is set for an April 7 theatrical release.

The Rs 1100-crore spectacle has a crucial sequence taking inspired from Ramayana that’s set to add to the grand scale of Varanasi.
“From my childhood, I have told several times that I like the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha a lot. That making Mahabharatha was my dream project. Even when I began working on this film, I did not realise that I would be shooting an important sequence from the Ramayana for this film. But while writing every scene, I felt like I was working on air. On the first day, when I saw Mahesh dressed as Rama and doing a photoshoot, I had goosebumps,” Rajamouli had said during the Hyderabad event.
Who is playing what in the film
The film’s protagonist Rudhra is played by Mahesh Babu while Priyanka Chopra Jonas portrays the female lead Mandakini. Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the main villain Kumbha. The film’s music is composed by MM Keeravani, who also won the Academy Award for best original song for Naatu Naatu from the film RRR.
SS Rajamouli, best known for his Baahubali series has helmed blockbusters like RRR (2022), Magadheera (2009), Eega (2012), and Vikramarkudu (2006).
