Independent studio A24 has a new US domestic champion as the sports dramedy Marty Supreme officially passed $80 million at the North American Box Office. According to reports from Variety on January 18, 2026, the film has now overtaken the $77.1 million record previously held by the 2022 Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The film achieved this milestone during its fourth weekend of wide release, aided by a strong performance over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Starring Timothée Chalamet as a fictionalized version of ping-pong legend Marty Reisman, the movie has benefited from a massive marketing campaign and critical acclaim that has already translated into major awards. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, musician Tyler the Creator, Odessa A’Zion, Kevin O’Leary and others and benefits from having a talented ensemble cast.
The most expensive A24 film
While the domestic record is a major win, the film still has work to do on the global stage. Sacnilk and Hypebeast note that Marty Supreme currently sits at a worldwide total of approximately $97 million. It still trails the $142 million global record set by Everything Everywhere All at Once and the $127 million earned by Alex Garland’s Civil War.
The financial stakes for this project are also notably higher than previous A24 hits. With a reported production budget of $70 million, Marty Supreme is the most expensive film the studio has ever produced. Industry analysts suggest that while the domestic success is impressive, the film needs to continue its strong international rollout to fully turn a profit before heading to streaming.
Timothée Chalamet’s awards season buzz
The intense rush and demand for the movie has been largely driven by Timothée Chalamet’s performance. Critically and popularly acclaimed, it recently earned him Best Actor wins at both the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. According to The Indian Express, the film is expected to receive second wind at the theaters following the Academy Award nominations where Chalamet is sure to be a strong contender in the Best Actor category. Nominations are scheduled to be announced this Thursday.
A24 plans to expand the film’s international reach across European and Asian markets in the coming weeks. Many experts believe that if the movie secures multiple Oscar nods, it has a realistic chance of challenging the worldwide studio record before it finishes its theatrical run.
