The Raja Saab worldwide box office collection: After a massive opening day that proved Prabhas’ star power, the box office numbers for his new film, The Raja Saab, saw a sharp decline on Saturday. The horror-comedy, directed by Maruthi Dasari, earned Rs 27.83 crore on its second day, marking a 48 per cent drop from its Friday start.
Even with this dip, the movie is very close to crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India. Its total domestic earnings now stand at Rs 90.73 crore, while its worldwide total has reached Rs 138.4 crore when including overseas sales.
The Raja Saab Box Office collection
The film started strong on January 9 with Rs 63.3 crore, but it hasn’t quite reached the heights of Prabhas’ earlier hits like Baahubali 2 or Salaar. The Telugu version is doing the heavy lifting, bringing in Rs 22.38 crore on Saturday alone.
However, the Hindi version has been slower to catch on, earning just Rs 5.2 crore yesterday. While Hyderabad and Bengaluru saw plenty of fans in seats, other regions like Mumbai and Delhi had much lower attendance.
Changes to the Movie
The film has faced criticism regarding its long runtime and special effects. Many fans were also upset that several exciting scenes shown in the trailers were missing from the actual movie.
In a surprise move, Director Maruthi held a press conference in Hyderabad to announce that he is adding these scenes back in. He spent Friday evening re-editing the second half to make it faster and more exciting.
“I have included an 8 to 9-minute episode that will be mind-blowing,” Maruthi said. He specifically mentioned a unique fight scene on a roof that he believes will win over the audience. These changes are expected to appear in theaters starting with the Saturday evening shows.
Prabhas tries something new
Prabhas, who is usually known for serious action roles, took a risk with this horror-comedy. In a recent interview, he explained that he gets bored doing the same types of movies and wanted to show his fans a different side of his acting.
With a massive budget of Rs 400 crore, the film needs to stay popular through the upcoming holiday season. While it is currently the number one movie in the country, it will soon face tough competition from new releases starring Chiranjeevi and other big names. The next few days will decide if this “new version” of the film can keep the momentum going.
