The Great India Kapil Show‘s recent season has made big waves on social media, from Priyanka Chopra’s viral singing performance to Sunil Grover’s effortless Aamir Khan mimicry. Kapil Sharma’s entry to Netflix promised some big viewership as he went OTT with his entire team. However, the show’s magic may be waning. Currently in its fourth season, Kapil’s show is gradually losing its ranking globally.

What started as a promising beginning, The Great Indian Kapil Show lasted in the global top ten for three weeks. But the viewership declined, despite Bollywood stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Salman Khan. According to Netflix, the show raked in 2.5 million views, with 2.4 million hours viewed.

Season 2 weaker, season 3 even worse

The Great India Kapil Show Season 2 featured Alia Bhatt, who was promoting her now poorly-performing film, Jigra. The opening episode had 1.2 million views with 1.4 million hours viewed. However, the season remained in the global top ten with 13 episodes. Guests on season 2 included Karan Johar, Vedang Raina, NTR, Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and even the men’s World Cup Champions Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Shivam Dube. Sister duo Kareen and Karisma were followed by Fabulous Wives and several other names from the industry.

Netflix data revealed that the third season gained the lowest views and unsustained ratings. Opening with Salman Khan, the episode gained 1.6 million views with 1.9 million hours viewed. The second week got 2 million views with 4.5 million hours viewed, and the third week saw 1.2 million views with 3.7 million hours viewed.

So far, the fourth season has released four episodes, but it has managed to enter Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English shows list only once. The show briefly made the cut after its second episode, which featured the Indian women’s cricket team, ranking eighth worldwide with 1.7 million views and 3.9 million hours watched.

In contrast, earlier seasons regularly saw their first three or four episodes chart globally. This time, however, viewership has dipped sharply, raising questions about whether Kapil’s show can regain momentum in the remaining episodes and reclaim its place among Netflix’s most-watched titles worldwide.
