Audience turnout increased throughout the day, 15.29 per cent in the morning, 21.67 per cent in the afternoon and 24.55 per cent in the evening. Night shows registered the highest occupancy at 41.56 per cent. As a successor to the 2013 hit Raanjhanaa, the film returns to the spiritually intense lanes of Banaras.

Dhanush plays Shankar, a man struggling with love and anger, while Kriti Sanon plays Mukti, whose choices lead to heartbreak.

Gustaakh Ishq Box Office Collection Day 1: Opens at Rs 50 lakh

Set in Old Delhi, the film follows Nawabuddin Saifuddin Rahman, played by Vijay Varma, who is determined to save his father’s printing press. In the process, he becomes a disciple of retired poet Aziz, portrayed by Naseeruddin Shah. Rahman soon finds himself falling for Aziz’s daughter Minni, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. His emotional struggle between love and loyalty forms the centre of the story.

Manish Malhotra’s directorial debut finds warm appreciation

For designer-turned-filmmaker Manish Malhotra, Gustaakh Ishq marks an important milestone.He has often spoken about wanting to bring back classic romance including simple storytelling, soulful music and gentle emotions.

The film’s international cut, Gustaakh Ishq – Kuchh Pehle Jaisa, premiered at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 24, receiving warm appreciation from the audience.
